Every individual who coaches for FYSA who is 18 or older must complete a background check annually. If you have coached for us previously and are unsure if you are in good standing or not please view our coach list here.

The summer season is 8 weeks long from the beginning of June to the end of July. Practices begin the week of Memorial Day. Each division (U6-U19) has 1 practice and 1 game a week. 

One of FYSA'S main missions is accessible soccer education. We don't expect every parent or volunteer to be an expert, and we aim to make the coaching process as enjoyable as possible. We will have a full 8-week session plan available to you with all of your practices planned out. These are optional, but many find the session plans helpful or at least a good starting point. 

Any coach that volunteers will automatically receive a flat 50% refund on their player's registration fee. Refunds are processed by FYSA staff near the halfway point of each season. You will receive an email notification of this action on your account. 

Club Week will be the week of May 20th. Club Week is an opportunity for coaches to meet their teams, and for players to pick up their pre-ordered gear or purchase it in-person. More information will be available soon. All coaches are encouraged to attend this event. 

• All Advanced Recreational players will go through a pre-season skills assessment. This is not a tryout, all players will be placed on a team. The skills assessment will assist us in making well balanced teams in an effort to give all players a similar playing experience. FYSA will be forming rosters for this summer season. 
• All Advanced Rec players will have an optional training session combined with Eclipse Soccer Club on Monday evenings. Coaches do not have to attend these sessions as they will be lead by ESC staff.
• All Advanced Rec coaches must be certified. 

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT

Listed below are a list of certifications that we will accept. We will reimburse any coach that has coached with FYSA for 2 or more seasons, this includes 1 winter season and 1 summer season. If you have questions about which course we recommend or about reimbursements please send us an email at "staff@fairbanksyouthsoccer.com". Upon completion of the course, coaches should send proof of completion by email before their team's first game.

• ($25) USSF Grassroots 7v7 Online License - Recommended for new U10 coaches

• ($25) USSF Grassroots 9v9 Online License - Recommended for new U12 coaches

• ($25) USSF Grassroots 11v11 Online License - Recommended for new U14 coaches

• ($25) United Soccer Coaches Foundations of Coaching Online Diploma - Recommended for new coaches of any age division

These are courses that often require in-person training , we do not recommend these for new coaches as they are in-person and not offered locally. However, if you have completed 1 of these licenses prior then we will accept it. Please send proof of completion to "staff@fairbanksyouthsoccer.com".

Click here to download the MOJO Youth Sports App. This app is a great free resource for volunteer coaches to utilize. It provides instructional materials  such as drills and games for practices as well as general advice & content meant for both the new and seasoned coach. It is available for both Apple and Android users. 

SAY Soccer is FYSA's parent organization for recreational programs. On their website there are some great resources such as video drills, printable drills, even an entire seasons worth of practice plans that you can choose from.

US Youth Soccer is another great resource. The USYSA Coaching Education Department recently published some excellent 'Assistant Coach Series' publications. These practice activities are great resources to use for your own field time.

SoccerXpert has over 160 quality and easy-to-follow drills for beginner to advanced skill and age levels. These are “organized and focused” practices, targeting specific topics one at a time with fun and effectiveness as the driving force to motivate mentees.
